Is the grass really greener on the other side?

"Even if you think the grass is greener on the other side, you’re going to have to mow that side too". — Joyce Meyer

There are some choices we didn’t get to make. For example, the family we were born into. You look at some people and you wonder how they are so lucky to be in certain positions. We even go to the extent of appreciating others while depreciating ourselves. And we always think the grass is greener on the other side until you know what other people actually face in their homes or their lives.

I was ‘privileged’ to be in several ‘gossip sessions’ some months past where people’s issues were analysed. Imagine them analysing a celebrity's relationship. Meanwhile, their own relationships were rocky. That’s by the way. In the ‘gossip sessions’, I was made to realise that, most times, people only present what they want the world to see. But behind the scenes, they are facing serious problems.

The question now is, would we still be bold enough to pray to God to make us like someone else if we could catch a glimpse into the scenes behind? Still, a balance should be struck here. As far as you don’t want to compare yourself with others, you also don’t want to bring people down.

Having the privilege of knowing what goes behind the scene doesn’t give you the right to mock people. Besides, no one is perfect. So, stop analysing people’s issues except you are in the counseling category. Again, know when to keep things confidential. Lastly, stop comparing.

Till the next post, keep learning.
