Much Ado About Money

"Before borrowing money from a friend it’s best to decide which you need most” — Joe Moore
It’s funny how new customers who were smiling when they came to your store, start frowning when it’s time to pay. It’s even more funny when money issue destroys more more than fifteen years of friendship. A lady was lamenting about how a customer was happy about her services, but when it was time to pay, the customer’s mood changed.
Then, I remembered how money almost destroyed some relationships I had cultivated. When these people wanted to borrow money, they were sober. But when it was time to pay back, they gave me funny attitudes. There are so many unpleasant scenarios that money issues have brewed. In fact, money issue is one of the major issues in families.
Moving forward, you might find it okay to bargain. But when it’s getting close to 'thief, come and carry it', be careful because, you can turn from good customer to bad customer. Also, as an individual, it’s good to give and it’s good to lend. But I think it’s okay to lend what you can afford to give away. This is because, you don’t have the system that banks or credit institutions have. Those systems have been set up to establish a contract between a lender and a borrower. That’s why they can give loans on certain conditions.
So when it comes to lending, do it like you’re giving (because some might not return what you lent them). Or have a licensed credit institution (that has systems in place). Lastly, don’t stand in gap for strangers. Someone once defined a stranger as “anyone you can’t vouch for”.
Till the next post, keep learning.
